Go Back to Free Eczema Article IndexEczema itch may be the worst itch that anyone can experience. If you think I'm being a little dramatic, then you obviously haven't had it. If you're dealing with eczema and the itch then there are probably a number of problems that you're experiencing as well.
For me, the number one was always the morning time. The unconscious scratches would leave my skin raw and red, sometimes even bleeding. I would wake up feeling like I have sleeping on sandpaper all night. The frustration is that this is something beyond your control, but it makes having any kind of a daily routine nearly impossible.
For example, just taking a shower after one of these scratching episodes would be almost intolerable, and any water temp over look warm could potentially cause an even worse outbreak with worse irritation.
One solution a few our site users have recommended is as follows:
About 1 hour before an evening bath, apply Medihoney Antibacterial Eczema Cream to effected areas. Let set at least 45 minutes and up to an hour. Soak for 5-10 minutes in cool-tepid water. Dry with soft towel. No heat of any kind should be used. If drying hair with hair dryer it is recommended that you use low heat and avoid contact with affected areas.
As always, be very careful what types of soaps and shampoos you use. Detergent free mild soaps are recommended. Also, because oatmeal allergy can be a contributing cause to the disease, you may want to stay away from those.
Bathing should only be done in cool or tepid water, especially when dealing with an outbreak as heat can increase inflammation. This is hard for a lot of people, but can make a huge difference in results of other treatments.
